Dabbling in 3D

Where have I been?

It’s Monday, September 25th around 10pm on a warm fall night and I’ve neglected to update this blog for a while. I’ve been privately writing things here and there, but have nothing completed and ready to publish.

This post is to get the train back on track and start producing something. I mean, this is my personal blog, so who cares what goes on it besides me. /end rant/

Quick Update on HoldmyPods

The last few months have been consumed with turning my idea into a full fledged product. The steps so far require utilizing 3D printing and rapid prototyping. My co-founder, Luke who has a Makerbot, which we’ve printed quite a few variations of our idea. To further expand on this, I’ve taken classes on 3D modeling using CAD (computer aided design) software called OnShape.

3d Printing FTW

OnShape was surprisingly easy to use and the instructor, Jordan who used to work at Formlabs, but now Wayfair, was great with beginners and extremely patient with us. Our task was to create a rocket ship from scratch and be able to send it to the printer.

My rocket ship looks very alien-ish, but I’m happy with it. Check it out here and let me know what you think!

Going forward, I’m taking on new projects and will be ordering a personal 3d printer next month. I’m highly considering going with the Monoprice Maker or the Monoprice Mini.

Monoprice Maker

Once ordered in October, I’ll be starting yet another website dedicated to what I’ve learned to do and printed. The new website will be called, Spindl3d. — Can’t wait to create an epic Spider 3d printer logo in photoshop. (I have too many things going on).
